AGIS PC

PC AGIS is a Microsoft XP PC version of the AGIS PDA / Cell Phone / Camera Software. The PC AGIS adaptation is designed for more stationary environments such as a home, office, or RV. A Windows XP Tablet PC can also be used in the car or in the field.

The PDA AGIS screens are vertically oriented as opposed to the PDA display that are designed to be held in one hand and operated with the other. The PC AGIS is typically operated from a desk or Laptop where the AGIS operator can use both hands to operate a keyboard and a mouse. To make it easy for an operator to shift between the PDA version and the PC version, the PC AGIS is designed to operate in almost the same manner as the PDA AGIS, with the exception that it is organized with the screen formatted horizontally.

The PC AGIS display screens are all familiar to PDA AGIS users.

The AGIS PC software uses a PCMCIA card to establish cellular communications. The AGIS PC has all the features of the PDA software plus some additional capabilities. But the AGIS PC Software does not yet include the “Point2Call” ™ feature. The principal differences between AGIS handsets and PCs are immediately evident in the PC AGIS display. Recall that AGIS handsets feature tiered SoftSwitches that are hidden until selected. With PC AGIS the Function SoftSwitches™ are always visible until any one switch is activated to reveal the associated Action SoftSwitches™. The layout of the information screens on the left side of the display screen is also different.

Obviously, the PC AGIS has a much larger display and viewing area than the PDA version. This greater screen “real estate” permits the use of much higher resolution maps, satellite and aerial photo imagery, and detailed map overlays. PC AGIS may be used on standard or “ruggedized” desktop, laptop and Tablet PC’s that use Microsoft Windows XP.

AGIS provides the ability to:

  • Zoom in-and-out and grab the display area.
  • Set Pre-established nets of AGIS participants.
  • Target other AGIS users to receive data and photographs within a radius determined by the furthest selected AGIS participant.
  • Enter symbols including: Meetings, Accidents and Emergencies.
  • Select several ways for Symbols to move across the displayed Map and select to view their history trails.
  • Display range, bearing, heading, speed, altitude, Phone Signal Strength, and GPS status information, and that of other AGIS units.
  • Select to use “Point-To-Communicate”™ and Transmit and Receive Text and Fixed Format Messages.
  • Select to use “Point-To-Communicate”™ to transmit Photographs and Video clips.
  • Operate in an environment using GSM, CDMA, WiFi, Cable, DSL and will work seamlessly using any or all simultaneously.

PC AGIS should operate on any Microsoft Windows XP equipped PC or laptop. For touch screens and stylus activated screens such as those found on Tablet PCs, Microsoft Windows XP for Tablets is the desired operating system (OS).

The following benefits are advantages that an AGIS PC enjoys over the AGIS PDA handset:

  • The PC has a more powerful processor and is normally equipped with a separate display processor. PC AGIS is considerably faster than the AGIS PDA.
  • PCs have a hardware floating point which makes map processing much faster. Furthermore, since they have an actual disc, they can store much more data including: photographs, video clips and maps.
  • Different screen display resolutions may be selected on PCs running PC AGIS. PCs have better screen resolution and can provide clearer visual images.
  • PCs have more capability to utilize additional interfaces.
  • PCs have better audio technology.
  • PCs allow the operator to perform additional functions simultaneously on the same screen. As an example, a PC AGIS unit can display the tactical AGIS Software Display and conduct an IP video conference call concurrently on the same monitor screen.

One obvious difference between the two AGIS Software Versions is the absence of the Microsoft Navigation Bar at the top of PC AGIS’s screen. The information that is contained in the Microsoft Navigation Bar on the Pocket PC is relocated throughout the PC Display.

Except for certain tablet PCs that have touch screens, the PC AGIS's screen is not touch sensitive as it is with the PDA Version. Instead of touching the screen, the PC AGIS operator uses the mouse as the selection device. To place a cursor on the Tactical Map Area, the AGIS operator maneuvers the Mouse arrow to the desired point and right clicks the mouse once. To hook a track the AGIS operator left clicks the arrow when it is near a track. Maneuvering the mouse arrow without right or left clicking the mouse provides range data and bearing data in the Site Participant Area. To select a desired SoftSwitch the PC AGIS User maneuvers the Mouse arrow to the desired SoftSwitch and left clicks the mouse once.
